What a surprise ... Another very long day! No sally tonight I am afraid (cheers abound!) its old Winnie speaking. Woken during night in pension at amost highest point in Northern Spain by a distant and harmonious barking dog being answered by the wolfhound kenneled just under window! Earplugs were quickly found. Very nice owner gave pilgrims supercharged caffeine intake at 6.30 .. Set off during a spectacular sunrise.. Hope to get that pic up asap. Short excursion to iron cross where pilgrim sally and PP had left sweets rather than the traditional stones.. Which they bitterly regretted later.. Hunger pangs.
Made it up to highest point in whole camino (close to Manjarin) and all before breakfast. Sally had italian rage which is best left to her to describe in another blog but basic camino etiquette was sorely lacking. Down to El Acebo and had wonderful meeting with jolliest shop owner in whole of spain. She rounded off a big shopping splurge (effective marketing) with a shot of home brewed lemon liqueur ... it wasn't even 10am.. Pilgrims supercharged, shot off to to next hamlet (montyseaka? The sign was blurry!) had nice lunch and pilgrim john paddled in river and slept all at the same time. Pilgrim John picking up more useful tricks.
Day was getting more humid as weather here has turned pretty nasty for next 2 days. Staggered on and even had to spend some time with Cruz Roja (not too dramatic.. Toilet stop and water intake!) .. Yogurts curdled, chocolate flimsy.. Pilgrims getting heated and fed up.
On and on until decided our next strategy. Getting too tired to reach villafranca. Have done 42kms with packs .. I think it might be a human limit? Will have to check with marines.
Plan A got us to Cacabelos where friday night, popular wine region and non-UK pilgrims having filled up alberque before us the only room available was outside .. Despite offer of blankets, the expected deluge forced us to plan B. Hopped into taxi for next 7kms to a Pension in Villafranca. Pilgrims earned their break .. Comotose as having covered a longer than longest day trek!
We look forward to tomorrow's trip up to O'Cerbreiro ... We actually do. Once the walking starts its lovely ... Unless its raining - which is maybe what is going to happen over next two days! Ah well!
Sally will be back on your screens when she is more conscious. No hot pants today.

45km! Well done, you do deserve to join the marines. Hope now that your extra team members have joined you it will be even more fun - from the looks of your grey map it is pretty flat after El Cebreiro. Xx
Hi Pilgrims, great report, left me feeling exhausted. Does this mean you will all be running to work in the future? Not such beautiful senery though. Well I did ride my bike down to the supermarket today but somehow does not have the same sence of achievement. Keep all going strong as I know you will. You will be having withdrawal symptoms on your return!
Love Sally XX
I would find it difficult to drive 45 clicks without being tired so well dome amigos. The The Cramp Twins and the future leadership of ETA will have arrived to make your last week shall we say enjoyable.
The man with no name but who has am infirm dog.
Good morning Sue - this is your campaign manager here! To let you know we are all thinking of you and are really proud of what you have undertaken - indeed all of your family. We'll hold the fort here until your return. Take Care and God Bless
Love Mary xx
