Day 11 .. Villafranca to burgos

Left lorry park as early as we could.. Although despite all the cigar smoke and smell of brandy from the drivers, the breakfast was surprisingly good. Walked long way through a forest onwards and upwards. Its amazing how quickly the scenery changes on this walk. Wolves and bandit country in the old days though nothing out of the ordinary was seen (weird oak tree forest though stretched for miles)
Into town of san juan de ortega (St john of the nettles!) beautiful church open this time with a crypt and special architecture that the sun lights up the stone statue of the virgin mary at the equinoxes at 5pm .. Very clever stuff. Ignored going into alberque as we realise we can hit Burgos if we press on.
We hadn't realised what an effort this would take. We suffered more allison rage (author of guide book) as distances seemed to stretch. We had to cross the motorway. Skirt a landfill site (where huge earth movers seemed to be playing tag with each other at high speed .. Huge clouds of dust which you will have to be patient to see pictures!) on over more mass transportation links to villaffria. There we had an option.. Walk 10 more kms down main lorry route past massive housing estates and car sales lots or catch a 50p bus ride to center... What do you think?
Booked into nice central hotel as refugio was om other side of town in a park.. And we learned was frightful!
Had lovely meal and little passeo before falling exhausted into bed...
